Influenced seemingly by the neo-renaissance, the romantic era in Europe, Tanbi kei is a sub-genre of Kote kei, that takes a step beyond the decadence to the heart of grace and beauty. Tanbi suggests the pursuit of beauty, or the veneration of elegant allure. As a sub-genre, Tanbi kei carries with it the elaborate and intense, alongside religious symbols and a bit of glamour.
Bands such as Moran are seemingly part of Tanbi kei, as well as some Kote bands being considered among this group. The artist Kaya had declared himself Tanbi kei for his release "Taboo.”
Tanbi kei is sometimes associated with an air of innocence, and classical elements in the music, as well as some darker or heavier sounds. For the light appearance, classical sound, and religious symbols, some consider Secilia Luna Tanbi Kei.
Some Visual Kei styles have influences rooted in historical European fashions, but there seems to be confusion over where certain trends originated. Styles and Eras seem to be mistaken for their counter expressions. The article below may clear some confusion. I have witnessed styles that utilize elements from several different Eras at once, seemingly defying time much as Steampunk fashions illustrate. Renaissanceall about lace, individuality, and luxury.
Romantic Era consider a new Renaissance focused on a revolt against aristocracy, and enlightenment. Prominent figures include Lord Byron and Mary Shelley. Style was all about aesthetics, emotions, and the exotic.

Angura has roots in the concept of "underground" or alternative, and is part of a movement that began in Japanese Theater in the 1960's. Although, commonly associated with and crossed with another style known as Ero guro, because of some similarities in lyric themes, Angura Kei is certainly its own movement. Angura Kei focuses on being uniquely Japanese, attempting to break from any Westernization.

Stemming from traditional Japanese stories of ghosts and monsters, there is a sepulchral attitude, a lurid almost horror feel, and a structured formalized quality to Angura Kei. Music often utilizes sounds of traditional Japanese instruments like the shamisen and koto.
White Kei is a sub-division of Oshare Kei, where there is a focus on the color white with refined fashion, but little other color, little make-up, and no extravagance. The music of White Kei is a pop-electro-metal.

White Kei is commonly associated with Soft Kei, because of the light nature of the styles. Emerging in the 1990's and continuing into the early 2000's, Soft Kei is a widely debated topic, as to its place in the Visual System. Often thought of as a mainstream phenomenon, Soft Kei music has a strong melody focus in its sound and an airiness overall. Characterized by simple clothes and simple or no make-up, Soft Kei is in strong contrast to more elaborate and darker appearances. Of course, Soft Kei is not entirely white, but is always simple in style and true to sound. Bands that are considered to be part of this genre include L'Arc ~ en ~ Ciel, Glay, Luna Sea, SIAM SHADE, SOPHIA Janne Da Arc, and Sid.

Rain
By: Glay
I wander, dirty in the downpour
Hugging my dreams to my heart
Ah, let my memories break cleanly...
I realise I’ve been carrying these tears inside me
I drop off to sleep and look up at the sky in my memories
Scattering a love that's now out of my reach
All I need's your light
Smile after the violent rain
Before my wet heart is torn apart
Can't you tell me now
Stop crying and tell me now
Can't you tell me about the lonely sadness that constantly adorns you?
Laying down out side
With a painfilled heart
Daybreak, gazing at the sky
The star shining, holds my memory
Apart, yet under the same sky
I can see your light
But, why can't my heart reach you
Why can't my love be with you
You just shine my solitary heart
Without saying anything
I embrace your light and memory
I try to immerse myself
In the eternity that was cut off in irritation
But just it just causes a constant loneliness
To stab at my body
All I need's your love
Sing in the violent rain
Of a love that was torn apart in the flow of time
Can't you stop the rain
Let your tears land on roses and make them grow
And forget the sorrow of the night that would not end...
I carry the tears I cried until yesterday inside me
And ask my midnight scars why I was born
Lost in a dream of a love that's now out of my reach
All I need's your light
Smile after the violent rain
Before my wet heart is torn apart
Can't you tell me now
Stop crying and tell me now
Can't you tell me about the lonely sadness that constantly adorns you?
All I need's your light wow...
Even if I entrust my body to the pouring rain
I still need your light wow...
Even though we hurt each other so much on those sleepless nights
Can't you tell me now
Stop crying and tell me now
Can't you tell me about the lonely sadness that constantly adorns you
