White Kei is a sub-division of Oshare Kei, where there is a focus on the color white with refined fashion, but little other color, little make-up, and no extravagance. The music of White Kei is a pop-electro-metal.

White Kei is commonly associated with Soft Kei, because of the light nature of the styles. Emerging in the 1990's and continuing into the early 2000's, Soft Kei is a widely debated topic, as to its place in the Visual System. Often thought of as a mainstream phenomenon, Soft Kei music has a strong melody focus in its sound and an airiness overall. Characterized by simple clothes and simple or no make-up, Soft Kei is in strong contrast to more elaborate and darker appearances. Of course, Soft Kei is not entirely white, but is always simple in style and true to sound. Bands that are considered to be part of this genre include L'Arc ~ en ~ Ciel, Glay, Luna Sea, SIAM SHADE, SOPHIA Janne Da Arc, and Sid.

Prismatic vivacious colors compliment cheerfully bright and positive attitudes. Oshare kei seems to have been inspired by Ryo of Baroque and the Decora fashion style. Baroque's pv, "Anakuro Film" is sited as a source for the starting point of Oshare fashion. Decora is a lolita style associated with playfulness. Decora fashion is filled with an aura of innocence expressed with accessories of kawaii toys, Hello Kitty, cartoon characters, flowers, and also anime characters are often imitated. Make-up consists of stickers, glitter, and mascara. Styles often associated with Decora are Kandee Kid and fRuIts. A kandee kid is a peace-loving, respect demanding raver, wearing bright colors and similar accessories as Decoras to illustrate a positive attitude. Fruits style was showcased in a magazine of the same name by Japanese photographer Shoichi Aoki. fRuIts are identified with bright colors in hair and clothing that is mismatched often accessorizing with cat ears and temporary tattoos of fruits such as strawberries or cherries and items such as bat-wings etc.

Make-up for Oshare kei is generally bright colours or very natural looking with black eyeliner. Outfits consist of bright colours with darker shades mixed in. There is a conscious awareness to separate from Decora fashion. A popular brand associated with Oshare kei is Sex Pot Revenge. Fabrics with prints such as animal, stripes, kawaii images, or cartoons are common. Fluffy jackets and lots of layering add to the look. Jewelry consists of bracelets and kawaii necklaces with plushies etc.
Oshare Keimusic is just as bright as the fashion sounding very pop or dance-able. Lyrics are usually emotional and happy, but may have some darker elements, just as the shades of darker colours contrast in the fashion. There is a feel reminiscent of punk rock to this music as well.
